Pebble of the Ninja Cat Clan

Pebble of the Ninja Cat Clan

Pebble is the Crazy and Squeaky / Screechy One. He "talks" a lot. He also does a lot of climbing and has been trying to scale the big mango tree in the yard. His method is to take a running start and scrabble up the trunk in the hopes that momentum will help him reach his objective.

Either he took Physics in a previous life or he was a stuntman or some other type of daredevil.

He manages to pull of the "Me? I did not do anything." look even though he has a devious mischievous gleam in his eyes. If that does not work he tries to talk his way out with endearingly cute squeaks.
He also has perfected the "tail shiver" in which he struts along with his tail sticking straight up in teh air and then quivering away on its own like a live thing. Sometimes he does that when he is being told off but other times he does it when he sees someone he wants to interact with.
Here is is climbing on the Monkey Puzzle Tree that fell during Cyclone Evan.

Tweedle the Mistress of Fake Sleep and the Laptop Creep

Blast from the past 1

This is Tweedle who liked to climb up as high as she could and then get stuck and have to call for help to get back down. She always did it with this very unstressed meow. Sort of like "Hello? Anyone there? If anyone is around and is not too busy ... um ... could you come ... please? But only if you are not too busy." then she would be all casual and "Um ... hello. Hi. Can you put me back down? Thanks"

She loved my lap top and would alwasy sleep next to the heat exhaust and try to inch herself on to the keyboard bit by bit

She was the mistress of fake sleep too. But tightly closed eyes meant she was pretending to sleep.

Resuming blog

Time to kickstart the resumption of this blog with some photos of the Next Generation.

This is Stoney otherwise know as THE SILENT ONE because he never speaks. His full name is Caspar Livingstone. Caspar is in honour of Caspar the Friendly Ghost as a wink at his Granddad the Ghost Cat and his uncle Ghost. Livingstone is in honour of David Livingstone the explorer since Stoney was an intrepid explorer at a very early age. I regularly found him wandering far afield from his siblings Pebble and Rocky.
Here he was PRETENDING to do his "I'm a Wild Tiger in the Serengheti" thing but he was actually just trying to get into the picture of the flowers.

Still pretending and then
The truth comes out. " Can I has pikchure taken Pweese?"

When and how to say no to Kittens

Jasper like all the kittens finds things and turns them into toys. In this case a pencil. I always try to keep an eye on what they do just to make sure that first of all they are not palaying with something that could harm them and secondly to make sure it is something I do not mind them playing with. That is something that they will not damage no matter what they do or something that I do not mind if they do damage it.

If it is something they they should not play with I just take it away from them and put it away or out of reach. No shouting, no smacking or any negative reaction just a simple no and remove from them.
In this case I decided that it was ok. I was just worried at first that he was chewing the lead and might break it.

Monday, 9 July 2012

This is a state that my desk often ended up in with four kittens making themselves at home and falling asleep.
They were usually pretty good in that they were remarkably well behaved and only tried chewing cords every now and then. The thing is I was very careful to socialise them into being sensible well behaved kittens not by shouting at them or hitting them which unfortunately some people think is how you should train cats and dogs.
Maybe it works to an extent with dogs in that they learn quickly to fear doing things that result in you hitting them or shouting at them but that just means you have a dog that is terrified of you. I have always found it extremely disturbing how dogs treated like that grovel at their "Master's" slightest tone of anger. I'm not going to say anything as to the psychological profile of people like that.

Cats on the other hand while they might seem to be learning what you want them to learn will actaully hate you even if they fear you. Unlike the dog they will not come grovelling on their bellies waging their tails hoping and begging for your approval. No. Cats demand you earn their trust and will never come to someone they do not trust.

Jasper wants to go back to sleep

Poor Jasper was fast asleep in the electric frying pan and I could not resist waking him up to say hello.
After plaintively complaining about being woken up Jasper briefly answered my silly question and made it clear he was going to catch a few more Zees. http://youtu.be/SbIHrMxuCKc

World Cup Training

The kittens found a golf ball and decided to start training for the World Cup. Here is one of the kittens training for World Cup.
